If you do not try to lose weight in the right way you could find that although your weight is dropping, you become lethargic and constantly tired. Then the lack of energy will start to hamper your efforts, so it is important to get the right balance of food, exercise and sleep.
Getting enough sleep is vital for many different reasons, but even more so when you are trying to lose weight. Research has shown that enough good quality sleep will assist you with your weight loss goal, and help you to keep the weight you have lost off. A lack of it will make you feel moody and tired, and your energy levels will fall to rock bottom.
7 to 8 hours every night is ideal, but if you cannot do this 7 nights a week, make sure it happens as often as you can. Turn your phone and TV off for an hour before you go to bed, and you will have a more restful night sleep.
Set some goals for the different aspects of your weight loss regime. Don’t make them huge; it should be small steps at a time. For instance, if you have decided that you will take up running to help, start with just a short one within a certain time. Achieving that goal will motivate you to move onto the next, and then you can make your run a little longer until you have achieved that one also when you can lengthen it even more. Over a series of weeks, you might be surprised just how much further you can now run, and how fast you can do it, compared to when you first started.
The same principle applies to food. When you are preparing your next meal, reduce the portion size very slightly. After a week or so reduce the amount you are eating a bit more. After a few weeks, you will begin to wonder how on earth you managed to eat the larger portions you started with. This is because when your stomach has less food, it shrinks. This means that you will feel hungry less often, and not want to eat quite as much as you were.
Because you would do these two things over a period of time, rather than try to make a sudden change, you will find that your energy levels do not drop. In fact, they are more likely to increase.
Forget The Fad Diets
There are so many fad diets on the market, it can be difficult to know which one is right for you. The answer is none of them. If you want to lose weight, stay healthy and retain your energy it has to be a change of lifestyle, not a fad diet. That way you will be able to stick to it and see results.
Have plenty of fruit and vegetables in your diet. Proteins are good, and you should ensure you get enough of them by eating lots of nuts, beans and legumes. Meals from foods such as these will be more filling so you will naturally eat less and not have so many hunger pains. You should also look closely at what you drink. Some bottles of fizzy pop and fruit juices contain so much sugar they are not at all healthy for you. They may give you a very short energy boost, but it is an illusion that they do more than that. Good fats will make a far better job of providing you with energy long term. You will find these in olive oil and some nuts.
