Don’t Sweat It! Excessive Perspiration And Exercise

As a woman, sweating can be seen to be a little socially unacceptable. Men get away with it because it’s raw and aggressive and “manly”. Sadly, it isn’t seen as  particularly ladylike. Thankfully, the attitudes are changing and more women aren’t worrying what other people think, and rightly so. Still, you should worry about perspiration when it gets in the way of your routine. Some people sweat a little and others leak buckets. If you’re in the latter, here are the options.


Is there anything worse than sweat making its way into your eyes? There you are, minding your business, trying to stay fit, when a droplet drips of the lids. Then, the floodgates open and water pours in from all directions. Apart from stinging, damn salt, it’s a health and safety hazard. Come on – going blind on a treadmill isn’t secure! Okay, so sweating is embarrassing. But, if you perspire less and it encourages you to exercise more, it’s a no-brainer. So, the next tip is to switch to antiperspirants as body sprays are useless. Oh, you already know that because it’s the worst kept secret in the world? Okay, well did you know night time is the best time to apply spray? Yep, the body is usually sweatier in the morning than any other time of the day. As a result, the moisture can wash away the deodorant. By applying at night, the antiperspirant should clog the pores and stop excessive sweating. As always, science comes to the rescue.

Dress To Impress

Sweat occurs when the body’s temperature rises. To combat the increase, blood vessels get nearer to the skin to secrete water. As the sweat evaporates, the cold air causes the body to cool. So, increasing the temperature of the body is a sure-fire way to sweat. And, people do it by choosing the wrong outfit. It isn’t a fashion show, but clothes should be light and breezy. That way, the body will stay at a pleasant temperature. As a rule, cotton and nylon are two of the coolest and lightest fabrics. Avoid anything bulky and thick, such as denim or cargo pants. It’s not ‘Nam!

Take A Towel

If the above is not enough to stop sweat, nothing will help. Don’t fret, though, because there’s one last option. Instead of trying to limit perspiration, you should accept it as part of the process. Then, you can take a small towel with you to wipe away the water. It isn’t the most economical solution, but it will stop water getting in your eyes and dripping on the floor. Anyone who is sweaty and goes to the gym should heed this advice. Wetting through machines and not wiping them down is plain rude!

Lastly, don’t be ashamed. Women of all shapes and sizes sweat, and it isn’t anything to be ashamed of.
