Review: Inflatable Giant Pass the Pugs

We were sent Giant Pass the Pugs for review. All images and opinions are our own.

My son has always loved anything to do with dogs, he’s got lots of dog themed games and puzzles, so when I spotted Giant Pass the Pugs, I knew that it would be something he would enjoy. It looked like an excellent garden game for the summer!

Inflatable Giant Pass the Pugs

As a child, I used to play Pass the Pigs almost weekly with my Grandma. It was, and still is a brilliant pocket sized game you could take and play anywhere with a flat surface. The rules were easy, toss your pair of pigs into the air and score points depending on how they land. Pass the Pugs is exactly the same, but my version came with two giant inflatable pugs.

Giant Pass the Pugs includes two pugs, a bag to keep them in once deflated and a score book. It’s suitable for people aged 6+, but it’s really not that difficult to play, so I don’t see why someone younger couldn’t join in the fun if they’re game! It’s for two or more players, and I reckon could be a great outdoor party game for the right crowd.

Inflatable Giant Pass the Pugs

The pugs took a bit of inflating. I tried blowing them up but I didn’t have enough puff, so we used a pump, which worked well. Within minutes we were ready to play.

As I’ve already mentioned, the rules are quite simple; throw your pugs into the air and you score points, or lose points depending on how they land. I’m not great with games with lots of rules, so this is very much on my level. The game comes with a scorebook, with the prize winning pug positions pictured on the front. It took me less than a minute to explain the rules to my son, and then we just got stuck in.

Inflatable Giant Pass the Pugs

It’s definitely a game best played outside in the garden. No one wants a pair of inflatable pugs flying around their living room. Thankfully, the sun was shining, and there was very little wind; so the conditions were just right for a game of pug tossing.

They do warn you that your pugs might need pumping up a bit during game play, but ours stayed firm throughout.

Inflatable Giant Pass the Pugs

I really liked that they’ve released a dog version of this game. I know my son was probably 100% more interested and engaged with the dog version, purely because dogs are his favourite thing ever. Who can blame him, this pair of inflatable pugs as as cute as anything.

We spent a good hour chucking them about in the garden. They are well balanced, in that they fell in different positions, which made the game quite interesting. Of course, there’s a bit of a knack to throwing them. If you throw them too hard they just land on their low scoring sides, but once you get the hang of it, you can try and throw some higher scoring rounds.

Inflatable Giant Pass the Pugs

Inflatable Giant Pass the Pugs is really great fun and the ideal outdoor game for the summer. I know that this will be played regularly this summer, and he’s already making plans to have a Giant Pass the Pugs party with some of his friends.

Giant Pass the Pugs is widely available and costs around £14.99 online and in good toy shops.

Toys: Introducing SuperZings – Rivals of Kaboom Blind Bags

When you’re 7 collectibles are so important. Amassing a collection of characters, swapping with your friends and trying to get the full set is the goal. In the last few years collectible characters have been huge in the UK and the newly launched SuperZings – Rivals of Kaboom (Series 1) are bound to be popular!

Toys: Introducing SuperZings - Rivals of Kaboom Blind Bags

SuperZings are everyday objects (like a tiny hairdryer or cheese grater with a face, a body and a cape) brought to life as heroes vs. villains, all living in Kaboom City. There are so many fun, colourful characters and accessories to collect; each with a matching rival.

There are 80 SuperZings to collect (all have their own superpower). Plus six Silver and two Gold Rare SuperZings to collect and one Enigma Super Rare SuperZing. They use one of the eight collectible Supercars to get around and live in Hideouts (eight to collect) which can also be used to launch the characters into the air.

The range includes a Starter Pack to get your collection started. There’s also a Blister Pack containing four SuperZings; two Hideouts and an exclusive SuperDisc Blaster.

The SuperZings Series 1 collectible range is very reasonably priced and seems to be priced for pocket money spends rather that parental treats. The blind bags which contain one SuperZing are 80p each. The hideouts bags which also include one SuperZing are £1.50 each and the supercars including one SuperZing are £2.50 each. There is also a Starter Pack (£5) and a Blister Pack (£7) containing four SuperZings; two hideouts and an exclusive SuperDisc Blaster.

Our verdict on SuperZings

My son thought they were really fun, he liked that they were everyday items turned into crazy superheroes. He also liked playing with the doors on the hideouts and launching the SuperZings across the room with them. We both really liked the Supercars. They are the kind of thing I’d throw into my bag to keep him entertained on a trip to a cafe.

They’re prices firmly in the pocket money zone and are suitable for ages 3+. They are small, so it’s worth keeping them away from younger children and pets (our dog was very interested in them, but that could be the crinkly bags rather than the toy).

The SuperDisc Blasters are lots of fun, but I did have to give the health and safety talk – don’t fire it at humans; don’t fire it at the dog; don’t fire it at my freshly painted walls. The discs are small plastic coin shaped things which are fired out of a blaster. Great fun for my 7 year old, as you can imagine.

The boy absolutely loved them. Blind bags and collectibles are so popular and watching him open them I can see why. It’s the element of mystery, the need to collect the full set and the excitement of being able to swap with his fellow collectors. if my son’s reaction is anything to go by, SuperZings – Rivals of Kaboom are going to be huge!

Review: Awesome Little Green Men “blind boxes”

Note: We were sent these Awesome Little Green Men for review purposes. All images and opinions are our own.

A couple of weeks ago we were sent some Awesome Little Green Men to try out. I put them to one side, ready to pull out with a flourish when my son had his cousin round to play. I didn’t think they’d be that impressed by them, but I surprised myself by being wrong. The Awesome Little Green Men are indeed awesome and about half of them are green, the rest are blue.

Review: Awesome Little Green Men "blind boxes"

Awesome Little Green Men is a new military collectible that combines blind-boxed soldiers and vehicles with a gameplay experience. You collect the Awesome Little Green Men and play the battle game. The goal is to build the best squad in order to win the game. Awesome Little Green Men is suitable for ages 6+.

Review: Awesome Little Green Men "blind boxes"

There are more than 100 unique military characters to collect in Series 1. With two troops to collect – green and blue. The collection features rare figures and more commonly found characters. The troops are led by General Pain and General Panic are made from colourful plastic. They have great names like Private Insurance, Corporal Kickbutt and Major Attack. I’m also pleased to note that there are some female characters who kick ass just as hard as their male counterparts!

We received a Deluxe Battle Pack (RRP £24.99) and a couple of Blind Boxes (£3.99 each) to play with. The Battle Packs contain everything you need to start your mission (comes with eight soldiers (three in a vehicle), eight dog-tags, a new recruits poster and game guide). Make sure you empty the pack out properly, there are bits and pieces cleverly hidden in the packaging. Each blind box comes with one soldier, one dog-tag, a new recruits poster and game guide.

There is a specific way to play the game – taking turns you march, attack, flick sliders to get hit points, each solider has a numerical value (printed on the bottom on the figure) and each player starts off with the same value of figures in their troop. When the hit points for the character has been reaches, he or she goes to the opposing team. Sounds more complicated than it actually is.

However, when it came to it, the boys just wanted to play things their own way, complete with old school sound effects. They had great fun with them and they were such a success they both gave them the thumbs up.

The individual blind boxes cost £3.99 which is about average for blind bags/boxes these days. The figures are about 2 inches tall and are well made, they’re fun and although there is a specific game you can play with them, they’re just as much fun if you just battle with your friends.
