Review: SuperThings Rivals of Kaboom: Rescue Force Series 10 collectables

We were sent these SuperThings Rescue Force Series 10 figures and playsets to review. All images and opinions are ours.

Like most children, my son LOVES collectables. He’s been a fan of SuperThings for years, indeed, since they were known as SuperZings. When each new series is launched, he gets all excited and starts his collection afresh. Thankfully they’re very much pocket money friendly, so he can well afford to splurge each week on a couple of the blind bags.

SuperThings Rivals of Kaboom: Rescue Force Series 10 collectables

For the uninitiated, SuperThings are little rubber collectable characters. They come in rival factions, so for every SuperThings superhero there’s a rival super villain to collect. They are very pocket money friendly, so you can buy them in blind bag form, but there are a number of different larger sets to collect, which are more suitable for little treats. Like with most collectables, there are rare SuperThings to look out for, these are mostly gold or silver coloured and are highly prized!

SuperThings Rivals of Kaboom: Rescue Force Series 10 collectables

The SuperThings Rivals of Kaboom: Rescue Force Series 10 has more than 80 new superheroes and villains to collect. It’s helpful to know that you can tell who’s a goodie and who’s a baddie because the super villains have yellow eyes, whereas the super heroes have white eyes.

We were sent a big box of the new SuperThings Rescue Force Series 10 collectables to check out, and it was a bumper haul for my little SuperThings fan!

SuperThings Rivals of Kaboom: Rescue Force Series 10 collectables

Available in SuperThings Rivals of Kaboom: Rescue Force Series 10

  • Starter pack, which contains a comic guide, a chrome SuperThing, a normal SuperThing and a special metal jet (RRP £5.99)
  • Ten pack of SuperThings, including 1 super rare gold SuperThing (RRP £9.99)
  • A six pack, which contains 4 SuperThings, 1 rescue jet and 1 jump wing
  • A Kazoom Kid, with 1 SuperThing and 1 accessory (six to collect, RRP £5)
  • Rescue jet with 1 SuperThing
  • Blind bags (RRP around 80p)

New to this series is the addition of the Kazoom kids (Starlock, Toolie Kit and Watermax who are the super heroes, and Cahillion, Breakmania and Funfire who are the super villains). These are larger figures than the regular SuperThings, and my boy was very impressed with them. They fit easily onto the rescue jets, which enhances their play value. They cost around £5 each, but he really enjoyed playing with them, possibly because they’re a bit bigger and easier for him to handle.

The starter pack is always a great way to kick off your collection. It’s got all the info you need to get going and the comic is colourful and fun, just the thing to pack for a summer holiday long journey!

My son loves collecting SuperThings, but he also enjoys playing with them, especially in the bath for some reason. He really enjoys the various vehicles they’ve had over the years, this year it’s most jets and jump wings, which is super-fun! They really enhance his play.

Each SuperThing comes with a collectable leaflet, so you can tick off what you’ve got a keep track of where you’re up to with your collection. SuperThings have been a perennial favourite for my son; each July when they launch a new series, he’s on it and suddenly starts helping more around the house to earn some more SuperThings for his collection.

As a mum, what I really like is that they’ve changed their packaging, so it’s made of paper and cardboard which is easily recycled. The SuperThings Rescue Force collection is out now at The Entertainer, Amazon and local Tesco, ASDA and Co-op stores.

Toys: Introducing SuperZings Series 2 Collectibles

Back in January we received a pack of SuperZings Series 1 to unbox and review. Little did I know that for the next 6 or 7 months SuperZings would become almost as important to my son as breathing. Our local Co-op stocked them, and as they are very reasonably priced, they became something he would be given regularly for good behaviour or trying hard at something. Soon we had pretty much all of the SuperZings Series 1 and we began to wonder when SuperZings Series 2 might be released. The answer to that question is now. Right now.

SuperZings are everyday objects (like a tiny hairdryer or cheese grater with a face, a body and a cape) brought to life as heroes or villains. The SuperZings all live in Kaboom City. There are so many fun, colourful characters and accessories to collect; each with a matching rival which you can collect and swap.

SuperZings are aimed at children aged 4-8, My son is 7 and is a real SuperZings Super-fan!

Like Series 1, there are 80 new multi-coloured characters to collect, each with a matching ‘rival’ including an ultra-rare character, 2 gold and 6 silver, to collect.

The Hideouts and vehicles have had a makeover too. Series 2 Hideouts have a new cylindrical shape which is divided into two chambers. The SuperZings Series 2 vehicles are a new range of SuperJets – collect a motorbike, boat, helicopter and quad bike. There are eight SuperJets to collect in a variety of different colours.

SuperZings Series 2 has some exciting new features including a brand new ‘SuperCrystal’ finish to some of the SuperZings. One of the biggest changes is the addition of a new ultra rare character, ‘Professor K’ – the inventor of ‘Krystaline’, a special substance that creates the SuperCrystal SuperZings. There are 24 ‘SuperCrystal’ characters to collect.  new style hideouts and a new range of playsets so kids can create their very own SuperZings world.

There are a number of playsets to go with the series. The Secret Lab Playset costs £20 and has a secret compartment; a lift to the roof and an exclusive SuperZings character with blaster. The Kaboom Race is also £20 and comes complete with two premium vehicles, a launch pad, barrels and a finish line. There’s also the Police Station Playset which costs £25. The set includes a police car, jail, cannon and lots of interactive elements. These would make great Christmas presents for SuperZings super-fans!

The SuperZings Series 2 collectible range is very reasonably priced and is at pocket money prices. The blind bags which contain one SuperZing are 80p each. The hideouts bags which also include one SuperZing are £1.50 each and the SuperJets including one SuperZing are £2.50 each. There is also a Starter Pack (£5) and a Blister Pack (£10) containing four SuperZings; two hideouts and an exclusive SuperDisc Blaster.

I know from how much my son loved Series 1 that Series 2 will be just as popular, perhaps even more so. They’ve added a lot of new and interesting elements to extend the play further. They’re so collectable and I know once they really hit the shops my son will be busy swapping SuperZings Series 2 characters with his friends. I love how inexpensive they are and how much joy SuperZings bring my son.

Are your kids into SuperZings yet?

Our verdict on SuperZings

My son thought they were really fun, he liked that they were everyday items turned into crazy superheroes. He also liked playing with the doors on the hideouts and launching the SuperZings across the room with them. We both really liked the Supercars. They are the kind of thing I’d throw into my bag to keep him entertained on a trip to a cafe.

They’re prices firmly in the pocket money zone and are suitable for ages 3+. They are small, so it’s worth keeping them away from younger children and pets (our dog was very interested in them, but that could be the crinkly bags rather than the toy).

The SuperDisc Blasters are lots of fun, but I did have to give the health and safety talk – don’t fire it at humans; don’t fire it at the dog; don’t fire it at my freshly painted walls. The discs are small plastic coin shaped things which are fired out of a blaster. Great fun for my 7 year old, as you can imagine.

The boy absolutely loved them. Blind bags and collectibles are so popular and watching him open them I can see why. It’s the element of mystery, the need to collect the full set and the excitement of being able to swap with his fellow collectors. if my son’s reaction is anything to go by, SuperZings – Rivals of Kaboom are going to be huge!
