Review: PAW Patrol Live! The Great Pirate Adventure

This summer there’s a treat in store for PAW Patrol fans – the PAW Patrol are on tour with their PAW Patrol Live show! The UK’s favourite pups have set sail on a Great Pirate Adventure and you can catch them touring arenas up and down the UK this summer. We took our PAW Patrol fan to the Manchester Arena over the weekend to see the show, but what did he think?

Review: Paw Patrol Live! The Great Pirate Adventure

What happens in The Great Pirate Adventure?

In The Great Pirate Adventure, Mayor Goodway is busy getting everything shipshape for a big Pirate Day celebration in Adventure Bay; but when Cap’n Turbot falls into a dark and mysterious cavern, it’s up to the PAW Patrol to save the day!

Marshall, Chase, Skye, Rubble, Rocky and Zuma ride to the rescue; saving Cap’n Turbot and discovering a secret pirate treasure map. An exciting adventure awaits, but will Mayor Humdinger succeed in throwing the pirate pups off the scent?

The pups soon set sail on a pirate adventure to find the treasure for Mayor Goodway. It’s all paws on deck to solve this mystery and find the pirate treasure, including help from the newest PAW Patrol pup – Tracker! No job is too big, no pirate pup is too small!

What did we think?

We had good seats on the front row of one of the tiers, we were to the side of the stage with a rail in front of us. The boy could only really see above the rail if he sat on our knee, which was fine, it meant we could jig along to the music with him.

The Great Pirate Adventure has two halves of around 40 minutes each with a 15 minute interval, which I think is just right for young children.

The characters are really well done, each character has a human visible behind them, doing the voices and acting along. Although the faces of the PAW Patrol are animated, we liked that the people operating them wore hats and costumes and were a part of the show too.

There was a song every few minutes and lots of dancing. There were some great touches, like Ryder’s car was a real car which he drove across the stage. I also really liked Ryder’s Pup Pad which walked onto the stage each time with the characters he was talking to in it.

In Great Pirate Adventure the Mayor characters seemed more interesting to me than in the series. Mayor Goodway was really well acted and I really liked (though I’m not sure I’m supposed to) Mayor Humdinger who by the end had the best costume in the show.

The set was ever-changing, colourful, versatile and impressive. It’s as lively and interesting as they can make it for stage.

The show we went to was the third show of the day and unfortunately there were lots of empty seats, which did make the atmosphere a little flat. We know someone who went to an earlier performance where almost all of the seats were filled and they said the atmosphere was great, with more people singing and dancing along. There was lots of audience participation which didn’t work quite  so well in the half empty arena, which was a shame really.

The boy loved it. It was just the right length for him and it was fast paced so there was little chance of him getting bored. I do regret not dressing him up in a PAW Patrol costume. Almost every child in the arena was dressed as Chase, Marshall, Zuma, Skye, Rocky or Rubble, so we missed a trick there.

It’s fun, it’s lively and it’s a real treat for PAW Patrol fans.

Toy Review: Fuzzy Felt Paw Patrol Set

With my small boy being a massive Paw Patrol fan (have you noticed?) our house is slowly filling with Paw Patrol toys and merchandise. The latest addition is a brand a new Fuzzy Felt Paw Patrol set from John Adams Toys which was launched this month.

Toy Review: Fuzzy Felt Paw Patrol Set

Paw Patrol fans will love the new Fuzzy Felt Paw Patrol set. It’s a reboot of the classic fuzzy craft toy which you might remember from your own childhood. I think every adult I know gets misty-eyed about the happy hours they spent playing with Fuzzy Felt and I’m no exception. I had previously dismissed Fuzzy Felt as a bit too basic and a bit too old fashioned for my son. But I was wrong, completely wrong.

Toy Review: Fuzzy Felt Paw Patrol Set

The new Fuzzy Felt Paw Patrol set costs £10.99 and is widely available in toy shops and online. The Fuzzy Felt Paw Patrol set contains four felt sheets with over 70 assorted felt shapes and a felt playboard. All you need is your imagination and you’re all set for hours of fuzzy fun.

The felt shapes come in sheets and you can easily pop the pre-cut felt shapes out and arrange them however you want on the playboard. Come on, you know how fuzzy felt works, why am I explaining it?

Toy Review: Fuzzy Felt Paw Patrol Set

The Fuzzy Felt Paw Patrol Set is suitable for children aged 3+ and I did think it would be far too basic and old fashioned for my six year old, but I was very, very wrong. He absolutely loved it, we sat in the garden for well over an hour playing with it. I went inside and left him to it for another half hour while I cooked our dinner and he happily played with it. He only stopped to eat and then was straight back on it again. It just goes to show, the classics are classics for a reason.

Toy Review: Fuzzy Felt Paw Patrol Set

If I had any criticism at all, it would be that the playboard is just A4 sized and I know my son would have loved something a bit bigger, perhaps an A3 board which folds down to an A4 size would suit him better.

I am really pleased my son likes this Fuzzy Felt Paw Patrol Set. It’s perfect for packing to take on holiday, especially knowing how long he will happily play with it. I know he will get great play value from this. If you’re wavering over buying fuzzy felt, don;t waver, just do it. I am astonished by how much he likes it.

You can watch my son playing with his Fuzzy Felt Paw Patrol set here on YouTube.

Review: PAW Patrol Rocky’s Barn Rescue Track Set

We recently reviewed the PAW Patrol Skye & Zuma’s Lighthouse Rescue Track Set which you can link up with other Paw Patrol track sets like the PAW Patrol Rocky’s Barn Rescue Track Set which we’ve been playing with this week.

Review: PAW Patrol Rocky’s Barn Rescue Track Set

The PAW Patrol Rocky’s Barn Rescue Track Set is a plastic track set which is made from 8 pieces of track and comes with a barn, a set of stickers and an exclusive Farmer Al Racer and Rocky Mini Figure. The barn has a weathervane which you can turn to close the fence and keep the cows off the road. It’s a simple track set and ideal as a first track set for Paw Patrol fans.

Review: PAW Patrol Rocky’s Barn Rescue Track Set

Aimed at children aged 3+ my six year old put this together quickly and enjoyed playing with it. It is quite basic, but he liked the barn and the rotating weathervane feature. He was very keen to connect it up to the other Paw Patrol track sets he’s got. I think as a stand alone set this is fine for younger children, but for a six year old the set is quite basic on its own.

It does come with an exclusive Farmer Al Racer and Rocky Mini Figure which he was very pleased with. The farmer, which isn’t available anywhere else was a hit. He enjoyed role playing being the Farmer, trying to herd the cows and make his way down the track he’d covered with rock stickers.

Review: PAW Patrol Rocky’s Barn Rescue Track Set

PAW Patrol Rocky’s Barn Rescue Track Set is made from solid plastic and requires no batteries. For children who want toys with flashing lights and blaring sirens, this isn’t the toy for them. You need to provide your own sound effects and that’s fine by me. There is no assembly required, other than putting the track together and decorating with the stickers which come with it.

The PAW Patrol Rocky’s Barn Rescue Track Set costs £19.99 (currently £13.20 on Amazon) and it is suitable for children aged 3+. I know my six year old would have gone wild for this when he was three.

Watch our video to see how to put the PAW Patrol Rocky’s Barn Rescue Track Set together and see how it works.

Review: PAW Patrol Skye & Zuma’s Lighthouse Rescue Track Set

If you’re the parent of a child under 6, you will in all likelihood know everything there is to know about Paw Patrol. This kids cartoon has hit the big time and girls and boys adore it equally. My son is no exception and his love for the Paw Patrol Rescue Pups shows no sign of waning. He has Paw Patrol books, cuddly toys, games and now some of the Paw Patrol track sets to play with. We put the new PAW Patrol Skye & Zuma’s Lighthouse Rescue Track from Spinmaster Toys to the test.

Review: PAW Patrol Skye & Zuma's Lighthouse Rescue Track

The PAW Patrol Skye & Zuma’s Lighthouse Rescue Track set is a colourful plastic track set featuring Zuma and Skye. The set has a light up lighthouse and the track can be set out in a number of different ways. Zuma who is in his hovercraft zooms down the slope, knocking the lever and releasing Wally the walrus from the net. The Lighthouse Rescue Track set links up with other track sets in the series to create your own Adventure Bay.

Review: PAW Patrol Skye & Zuma's Lighthouse Rescue Track

Press the top of lighthouse to activate the light and spin Skye as she flies around to search for Wally the walrus. Once he is spotted, launch Zuma to the rescue. Oh no, Wally is stuck in a net! Lift the ramp to launch Zuma in his Hovercraft down the hill. Once he reaches the water he’ll hit the lever and rescue Wally. Build the world of Skye & Zuma’s Lighthouse Rescue Track Set with 12 track pieces, 1 Wally track piece, 1 lighthouse, and 1 dock. You can even move the trees to switch the track and send Zuma straight to the dock and in to the water! Paw Patrol is on a roll with the Skye & Zuma’s Lighthouse Rescue Track Set.

Skye & Zuma’s Lighthouse Rescue Track Set contains –
  • 3 Track ends
  • A Dock
  • Lighthouse
  • Skye Mini figure
  • A Wally Track Piece
  • 4 Water Track Ramps
  • Zuma Hovercraft Racer
  • 1 Merge Track
  • 1 Intersection Track
  • 2 Merge Water
  • 1 Straight Water Track

The PAW Patrol Skye & Zuma’s Lighthouse Rescue Track is pretty easy to put together. The only slightly tricky bit is attaching the Skye mini figure to the plastic bar which goes on the lighthouse. This bit might require the help of an adult as it is a little bit fiddly.

The lighthouse track set is pretty fun. There’s a button on the top of the lighthouse which you press and the lighthouse lights up and Skye flies around it (or rather spins around it). Near the lighthouse there is a ramp. Lift up the ramp and it tips Zuma in his hovercraft down and around the track, knocking the lever and lifting the net holding Wally the walrus captive.

The track set is lots of fun to play with, Ben pointed out that it links together with the other track sets, so you can extend the play and incorporate the other rescue pups and other parts of Adventure Bay. Ben really enjoyed playing with it, especially banging the button on the lighthouse and making Skye spin around. He also liked sending Zuma down the track to rescue Wally.

Review: PAW Patrol Skye & Zuma's Lighthouse Rescue Track

It’s a well thought out set and you can play about with the route of your track. Apart from the light in the lighthouse there’s nothing electronic about it, it doesn’t beep or play music and you’re largely reliant on your own imagination. Ben is a very imaginative child, so he’s very happy to act out a whole range of rescue scenarios with his Paw Patrol figures and the Lighthouse Rescue Track without any prompting from us.

Skye & Zuma’s Lighthouse Rescue Track Set is mostly made from colourful plastic. The plastic isn’t flimsy and the track fits together easily. The instructions for slotting the lighthouse, dock and track together are easy to follow and it can all be fully assembled in a few minutes. The lighthouse requires 3 LR44 batteries which are included, so it’s ready to play with as soon as it’s out of the box.

The Lighthouse Rescue Track Set is for ages 3+. My son is 6 and he has really enjoyed playing with it. He likes that it links together with his existing Paw Patrol track and he can use it to play with all the Paw Patrol figures he’s got. He has a wonderful imagination and can spent hours playing with it, setting up rescue scenarios and generally having fun with it.

This set costs around £29.99 and contains lots of track pieces, two figures and some larger pieces such as the lighthouse and the dock. I think it is good value for money. I especially like it because the only battery you need is for the light in the lighthouse. This means that there is no repetitive music or noises which could potentially irritate.

Skye & Zuma’s Lighthouse Rescue Track Set is made my Spinmaster Toys and is available from a wide range of toy shops and online retailers such as Amazon.

The Verdict:

Skye & Zuma’s Lighthouse Rescue Track Set is a solidly built and colourful track set for Paw Patrol fans ages 3+. My six year old is really enjoying playing with it. Although I do think he’s very much in the upper age range for this toy. It is simple to put together and play with and has enough moving parts to keep things interesting.

I would say that the Skye figure is a little on the small side. I suspect that is because she has to be put on the plastic bar to be spun around the lighthouse. It is also a little bit fiddly to get her on the plastic bar. So expect a few requests for help attaching her to the bar and the lighthouse.

Additionally, we liked that it linked up to other Paw Patrol track sets, so you can create your own Adventure Bay. This could be the kind of toy you build and collect the whole set of over a period of time.

Review: PAW Patrol Game On! DVD

PAW Patrol – we’re on a roll! Good news PAW Patrollers, everyone’s favourite rescue pups are back in action in their brand new DVD – PAW Patrol Game On! which is released on 22nd May.

My son adores PAW Patrol and he was incredibly excited to get his paws on this DVD a couple of weeks before its UK release. In these seven exciting, sports-themed episodes, the PAW Patrol team take part in some daring rescues and amazing adventures.

Giveaway & Review: PAW Patrol Game On! DVD

The PAW Patrol Game On! DVD includes seven sporty episodes –

Pups Save a Basketball Game – Mayor Goodway needs a basketball team, so she calls Ryder and the PAW Patrol for help. The pups team up to become the “Adventure Bay All-Stars” and they’ll need everyone, including an uncertain Marshall, to pitch in and help win the game for Adventure Bay.

Pup-Fu! –The PAW Patrol and the mischievous kittens from Mayor Humdinger’s Kit-tastrophe Crew are both competing for their martial arts belts when they come across an ancient scroll that holds a wealth of secrets. Mayor Humdinger steals the scroll and the PAW Patrol is called upon to find and return it back to Sensei Yumi.

Pups Save the Mayor’s Race – It’s the annual Mayor’s Race and Mayor Goodway is determined to beat the devious Mayor Humdinger. Mayoral contestants need to row a boat, swim and race to the finish line. The pups need to help Mayor Goodway train for the running race and deal with Mayor Humdingers’ disasters.

Pups Save a Snowboard Competition – Jake and Everest are excited for the big Snowboard Competition, until they look outside and see the course is completely buried under a blanket of snow. The rescue pups help to clear the course and rescue the Kit-tastrophe crew kittens who have fallen off a cliff. Everest uses her grappling hook to lower Ryder down the edge of the cliff and her snowboard jet pulls them back up to safety.

Pups Save the Soccer Game – When devious Mayor Humdinger challenges the Adventure Bay team to a soccer match, Ryder and the PAW Patrol are called in to play. The PAW Patrol players start strong but a series of mysterious mishaps jeopardise their team’s victory. The pups must work as a team to overcome some dirty tricks by Mayor Humdinger and win the match!

Pups Great Race – It’s Adventure Bay Race Day and the Pups are about to race each other all across the town to see who is the fastest pup. One other competitor unexpectedly shows up though, Alex in his super trike!

Pups Save a Tightrope Walker – Francois Turbot is bravely walking a tightrope between the top of the Bridge and the Lookout Tower, but storm clouds and seagulls threaten to ruin his act! It’s time to call the PAW Patrol to help get him safely to the other side.

My six year old son has been a massive (seriously massive) PAW Patrol fan for around three years now and his love to Ryder and the PAW Patrol team shows no sign of waning. I fully expected him to love this DVD and I was not mistaken. He’s watched the DVD several times in its entirety and then dipped in and out. The PAW Patrol Game On! DVD is an absolute must for any mini PAW Patrol fan!

Toy Review: eZee Beads PAW Patrol

One of my son’s favourite things in the world is Paw Patrol. He’s been fairly obsessed with the TV series for about three years now. His love for Chase, Marshall, Ryder and the team is as long standing as it gets for a six year old. It also shows no signs of waning. He’s got quite a lot of Paw Patrol merchandise, but he’s always keen to add more to his collection. Over the Bank Holiday weekend we gave him a eZee Beads PAW Patrol set to try, but what did he think?

Toy Review: eZee Beads PAW Patrol

The eZee Beads PAW Patrol set was launched this year and costs around £16.99 for the set. eZee Beads PAW Patrol is suitable for ages 5+ and comes with three Paw Patrol designs to make – Chase, Marshall and The Look Out.

The set comes with –

  • 900 eZee beads
  • Bead tray
  • Plastic tool
  • Water sprayer
  • 3 design cards
  • Bead storage tray
  • Instructions

Toy Review: eZee Beads PAW Patrol

This new kit from John Adams allows you to recreate your favourite Paw Patrol characters with colourful beads. Just select a design card, push the beads onto the pegs of the tray and then spray with water. Then leave your beads to dry (and stick together). Once it’s dry, carefully remove your bead design from the tray.

To begin with I helped him to get it all set up, putting the beads into the bead storage tray and showing him how to put the beads on the pegged tray. You’re supposed to slot the design into the bead tray and put the coloured beads on top of the design. But the cardboard design kept falling out and the plastic tray obscured it. We found it easier to have it next to the board and count the different coloured beads in each row.

Toy Review: eZee Beads PAW Patrol

As with all bead crafts, this was a little fiddly for his small boy fingers. But that’s the point, bead crafts like this are excellent for helping to boost his hand-eye co-ordination as well as strengthen the muscles in his hands which will help to improve his pen holding and writing.

It was not too fiddly though. Once he got into the rhythm of it he methodically placed the beads into position. He really enjoyed bringing Chase’s face to life in bead form.

Toy Review: eZee Beads PAW Patrol

Once he’d finished the design (which kept him very well occupied for over an hour) we sprayed the beads with water and left them to dry and stick together. When we’ve done bead crafts in the past they have always been the kind you have to iron, I’ve never been that keen on that if I’m honest. Whilst the results are pretty instant, a hot iron and an excited child are a combination which makes me a bit nervous.

The instructions say to leave the beads to dry for half an hour, but when I checked it was still a bit wet so I put it to one side for a few more hours. Once it was dry I used the tool supplied to try to ease the design off the bead tray. This was a bit tricky, I didn’t want to break his design. I very carefully teased the edges off with the spatula end and with the sharper end ran it underneath the beads to release them. After a couple of minutes of gentle persuasion the design came off the board and was admired by everyone in the room.

Toy Review: eZee Beads PAW Patrol

He was really pleased with the results of his hard work, and rightly so. I was really impressed that he sat for so long to compete his design. The eZee Beads PAW Patrol set was really easy to use and contained everything you need. We liked it a  lot. It’s ideal for a bit of quiet, focused craft time and the eZee Beads are, well, very easy to use.

The eZee Beads Paw Patrol set from John Adams is available from a wide range of retailers including Amazon.

Review: Sambro Paw Patrol Craft Egg

When you think of Easter, one of your first thoughts is probably about chocolate eggs. In recent years there have been a few changes to the eggs kids might find left by the Easter bunny, and not all of them are now made of chocolate.

It’s also nice to be able to give something that won’t be gobbled up in five minutes, especially as my son usually gets given a lot of chocolate eggs. We’ve been gifting a combination of chocolate eggs and play eggs for the last few years, much to the delight of my son. This week we received the Paw Patrol Craft Egg from Sambro to put to the test.

Review: Paw Patrol Craft Egg

The Paw Patrol Craft Egg is ideal for little artists who enjoy being creative and who like to have fun creating, painting and drawing. The Craft Egg is a great way to encourage and develop their creativity and imagination. Plus it will also keep your little ones busily entertained for a while.

Review: Paw Patrol Craft Egg

He was incredibly excited when he saw the Paw Patrol Craft Egg sat waiting for him on the table.  I helped him peel the wrapper off (which is tricky and will probably need a grown-up and a pair of sharp scissors) and then he opened up the egg.

The Paw Patrol Craft Egg contains:

  • 4 Marker Pens
  • 4 Crayons
  • 2 Ink Pads
  • 2 Stampers
  • 2 Finger Paint Pots
  • 10 Paw Patrol Colouring Sheets

Review: Paw Patrol Craft Egg

He was absolutely delighted with his Paw Patrol Craft Egg. Once we’d unpacked it and looked at everything inside, he diligently sat colouring the pictures in and stamping them with his new Paw Patrol ink stamps. He happily crafted and coloured away for over an hour.

I think he will come back to his craft egg several times over the next few days. He has already coloured in the ten pictures which were included, but with the paint, felt tips, crayons and ink pads included, I am sure he will create a number of artworks over the Easter break.

The Paw Patrol Craft Egg from Sambro costs £5.99 and is a good alternative to the traditional chocolate egg. There are a number of different craft eggs to choose from which include Minions, My Little Pony, Shimmer & Shine and Disney Princesses. The Paw Patrol egg is available in pink or blue. They are available from a range of retailers, but I’ve seen them online in both Amazon and Ocado.

We were sent a copy of the Milkshake Fabulous Friends DVD to watch, and we thought it was a most brilliant way to spend an afternoon of family cuddles on the sofa. The DVD has most of his favourites on there and at over two hours long, it’s a great DVD to dip in and out of, or to help fill a rainy afternoon now that winter is here.

Obviously top of his list is Paw Patrol, and this DVD contains probably his favourite episode ever – Pup Pup Boogie; where Ryder, Chase and Rubble use their dance moves to help repair the tracks before the next train arrives.

One of his other favorites is Thomas & Friends. When Harold the Helicopter breaks down, Thomas and Duck take him to Sodor Search and Rescue for repair. Thomas wants to show them the sights but Duck isn’t keen. They need to learn to work together to be Really Useful Engines!
