Milkshake Fabulous Friends DVD DVDs for Five Year Olds

We were sent a copy of the Milkshake Fabulous Friends DVD to watch, and we thought it was a most brilliant way to spend an afternoon of family cuddles on the sofa. The DVD has most of his favourites on there and at over two hours long, it’s a great DVD to dip in and out of, or to help fill a rainy afternoon now that winter is here.

Obviously top of his list is Paw Patrol, and this DVD contains probably his favourite episode ever – Pup Pup Boogie; where Ryder, Chase and Rubble use their dance moves to help repair the tracks before the next train arrives.

One of his other favorites is Thomas & Friends. When Harold the Helicopter breaks down, Thomas and Duck take him to Sodor Search and Rescue for repair. Thomas wants to show them the sights but Duck isn’t keen. They need to learn to work together to be Really Useful Engines!

Review: Milkshake Stars DVD Collection

Packing for my birthday weekend away, I shoved the small boy’s portable DVD player in the car along with his brand new Milkshake Stars DVD, hoping that around 2 hours of DVD fun would keep him entertained on the journey up to Whinfell. The Milkshake Stars DVD features well loved favourites including Thomas & Friends, Peppa Pig, Fireman Sam, Little Princess and Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom. It’s fair to say it was a really good thing to take with us.

The small boy loves Milkshake. He races downstairs every morning to catch up on the latest goings on with Peppa Pig and Thomas & Friends. He loves Fireman Sam too, he doesn’t have gender bias either, he’s equally as fond of them as he is of Angelina Ballerina and Little Princess, so this DVD is almost tailor made for him.

Review: Milkshake Stars DVD Collection

Did it pass the weekend away entertainment test? Yes, absolutely. It kept him occupied, interested and engaged for the entire two hour journey. He liked the variety of programmes to watch. He enjoyed watching his old favourites, Peppa Pig, Thomas & Friends and Angelina Ballerina, as much as he enjoyed discovering new favourites such as Pip Ahoy!, Toby’s Travelling Circus and Jelly Jamm.

From a parental perspective, there are few things more annoying than putting a series DVD on and hearing the same theme tune every ten minutes, with this DVD there’s a variety of programmes, so it’s considerably less full-on. Plus it’s nice to see him enjoy the programmes. We chatted about the content of some of the shows, and explored themes around what he’d seen.

The Milkshake Stars DVD is released on Monday 8th September 2014. It is a brilliant blend of action, comedy and fun. We were sent a preview copy for review, but the DVD is widely available in the shops and online. It’s definitely going to be one of the most popular DVDs in his collection.

Note: We were sent the Milkshake Stars DVD free of charge for review purposes. All images and opinions are our own.

Book Review: Personalised Peppa Pig Book from Penwizard

Toddlers, like most humans, develop obsessions. We’ve had Curious George, Chuggington, In The Night Garden and more recently, Peppa Pig. It’s not that we don’t embrace his obsessions, we do with some gusto; it’s just that his repeated and rather adorable requests to watch “the piggins” do become a little wearing. I’d much rather snuggle up with him and read a book than plonk him in front of the telly. But sometimes the telly wins.

I was asked by Penwizard if I wanted to create a personalised Peppa Pig book for him, my first thought was that if he was frolicking around on the pages of a Peppa Pig book he might let me turn the telly off. I was right.

Creating the book was easy. I went to the Penwizard website, selected which story we’d like, in this case “Peppa Pig and Benjamin Go Swimming”. You then choose from a selection of facial features to create a likeness of your child, throw in a few words of personalised text and away you go.

The book arrived quickly and was well packaged. It comes with a little letter to your child which has a picture of them and Peppa on the reverse for them to colour in. We thought that was a nice touch.

The book itself was soft back and A4 sized (though hard backs are available). It’s a colourful, beautiful book. The illustrations are simple and engaging, much like the cartoon series. The little cartoon Benjamin (my boy) was pretty accurate and he recognised himself immediately.

I loved that there was real attention to detail with the book, such as the personalised message from Mummy and Daddy. The story itself – Peppa and Benjamin Go Swimming was fun-packed and engaging, as I read it to him he listened carefully and pointed things out on the page. He enjoyed it so much he demanded I read it several times before he went to bed. It’s a real winner.

It’s a lovely book and a great way to encourage reading with your little one. It is a Ladybird book, a brand who I remember with great fondness from my childhood. The soft back book is just £14.99, I think it’d be a lovely present for any little one. They have a few characters to choose from too, like Noddy, Ben & Holly and Roary the Racing Car.

I can see this being a bedtime favourite and I’m sure that we’ll be ordering others from the series. He loved his bedtime adventure with Peppa and I did get to turn the telly off for a change.

Disclaimer: I was sent the Penwizard Peppa Pig book for review purposes. It’s worth £14.99 and it’s just lovely.
